The answer to the previous blog was ‘YES’….

I’m a temporary visitor to this World Heritage site. Was warned it rains every day – buy waterproof socks was the regular mantra from prev. Macca souls.

We were picked up in Hobart by the French Naval Icebreaker ‘The l’astrolabe. A gorgeous but very very rolly polly vessel. After a few days of windy rainy weather the sun came out for a few weeks. Spoilt with no waterproof socks in site.

In the photo above you can see the ‘slightly’ messy Australian base nestled in the isthmus on the northern end of the 34 km long island (5 km across at widest point). On arrival we had tsunami training – theoretically the base might just disappear …. I try not to think about it too much…
